Dear Ladies and Gentlemen!

Russia has a powerful aluminium industry starting with the production of primary aluminium to the downstream production, manufacture of various semi-products from a wide range of aluminium alloys, and is a one of the leading producers of raw materials and primary aluminium.

Russian metallurgical plants produce sheet, slabs, extrusion profiles and panels, stamped and forged items, wire for fasteners and strip and foil for beverage cans and packaging. These plants are modernly equipped and possess the worldly most capacious presses – vertical 70,000-ton heavy extrusion presses and horizontal 20,000-ton extrusion presses.

Significant contribution to the development of the aluminium industry has been done by All-Russian Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM). For over 70 year history of VIAM its specialists have developed and introduced high-technology welded and corrosion-resistant alloys, high-strength alloys for the basic load-bearing elements of airplanes and spaceships, heat-resistant alloys for supersonic aircrafts and rocketry.

A whole set of technologies for chemical, electrochemical and protective and decorative treatment of aluminium surfaces has been developed.

VIAM takes an active part in the international cooperation to apply newly developed aluminium alloys in the perspective aeronautic engineering of western countries.

Considering broad spectrum of application of aluminium and its alloys in the national economy, the subjects of the First International Conference “Aluminium Coatings – century” are, undoubtedly, of great interest and importance.

Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science, Professor Eugene Kablov
General Director of VIAM
