On the arrival in Venice the Conference delegates will be offered to take motorised waterbuses ("vaporetti") to go to St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco). As the central landmark and gathering place for Venice , Piazza San Marco is extremely popular with tourists, photographers, and Venetian pigeons. Besides, the Conference delegates will be able to see and visit St Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and Rialto Bridge.

Venice is built on 117 small islands connected by approximately 150 canals and 409 bridges. Narrow pavements and splendid quays as well as cozy streets and magnificent squares with ascetic churches and elegant palaces make an indelible impression on tourists.

 

 

St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco), is the principal square of Venice .

A remark often attributed to Napoleon calls the Piazza San Marco "the drawing room of Europe". Throughout its long history the Piazza has been a witness of different processions, performances, political events and numerous carnivals. The Piazza dominated by the Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Basilica's campanile, which stands apart from it.

 

 

The Grand Canal (Canal Grande)is the most important canal in Venice . It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city making a large S-shape through the central districts of Venice .
