On September 1, 2005, after a 12-year-long forced intermission, the department resumed functioning in Building A at 6 Leninsky Prospekt. Thus the department was territorially reunited with the university.

At present, there are 7 professors, 6 assistant professors and 5 senior lecturers among the department members; four of the department members hold the degree of Doctor of Science and 11 — the degree of Candidate of Science in Engineering.

The department's study and research laboratory facilities include 1 6 laboratories, which have been or are now being fitted out with all the necessary equipment for carrying out the educational process and conducting research in modern conditions:

laboratory for melting and sand casting

Fitted out with equipment for making molding and core sand mixtures, electric furnaces for melting ferrous and non-ferrous metals (two electric induction high-frequency furnaces and one resistance furnace. Heat size - up to 60 kg by copper), apparatus for making sand molds, a test bench for thermal analysis of alloys, and a carbon express analyzer.

laboratory for continuous casting of non-ferrous metal alloy ingots

Fitted out with a continuous horizontal casting plant, electric melting furnaces, and a test bench for thermal analysis of alloys.

laboratory for special casting methods

Fitted out with equipment for chill casting into handheld molds, for centrifugal (vertical and horizontal) casting, and for shell mold casting. The laboratory has Nabertherm computer-controlled furnaces for heat treating and melting non-ferrous metals and determining the casting properties of alloys using technological samples.

laboratory for investment casting

Fitted out with a set of equipment for a complete cycle of making wax patterns, ceramic molds and castings with a maximum overall size of 400 mm.

study and research laboratory for art and precision casting

Fitted out with a set of equipment for a complete cycle of making art castings from copper and aluminum alloys by sand and investment casting. Maximum capacity of the melting furnaces - up to 150 kg by copper.

laboratory for testing mold materials

Fitted out with Georg Fisher, IGV and other testing instruments making it possible to perform complete tests of molding and core sand mixtures.

laboratory for non-ferrous casting

Fitted out with equipment for non-ferrous metal melting and for refining molten metal with gas, obtaining quick-cooled metals and alloys and measuring the molten metal surface tension.

laboratory of metallography

Fitted out with optical microscopes having a magnification of up to 1,000 times with image output to a computer, microhardness testers, and a JSM-35CF scanning electronic microscope.

laboratory for physical-chemical analysis of casting processes

Fitted out with Tamman and SShVE vacuum furnaces making it possible to heat metals and alloys to a temperature of 2500°C, and also a device for decanting the melt in the process of its crystallization.

• laboratory of technological measurements and instruments

Fitted out with a set of instruments and test benches for measuring the temperature and physical properties of liquid and solid metals and alloys.

laboratory for mechanical testing and polished section preparation

Fitted out with a tensile testing machine, Brinell and Vickers hardness testing instruments, and a set of equipment for polished section preparation.

laboratory for computer-aided modeling of casting processes

Fitted out with ProCAST, Unigraphics, Poligon and LVMFlow computer-aided modeling systems.

laboratory for foundry production ecology

Fitted out with instruments for monitoring the state of gaseous and aquatic media.

laboratory of wear-resistant materials

Fitted out with test benches for measuring the wear resistance of materials etc.

laboratory for studying the processes of alloy crystallization and casting solidification

Fitted out with apparatus for melting ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys and directed crystallization and for conducting thermal analysis.

study and research laboratory for rapid prototyping of cast parts, models and molds

Fitted out with apparatus for laser stereolithography (LS-350), 3D printing of models and molds (ZPrinter 310 Plus), and optical digitizing and object measuring with the possibility of reverse engineering (ATOSIIXL).

There is also a mechanical workshop functioning at the department.

In 2006, the Russian-Korean Scientific and Educational Center for Advanced Materials and Technologies was established on the basis of the Department of Casting Process Technologies of MISA-TU.
