
The Second International Conference and Exhibition “Magnesium – Broad Horizons” was successfully held on June 6-8, 2007 in Saint-Petersburg, one of the most beautiful and picturesque cities, so called “North Venice”. It was organized by the “Alusil-MVT” company, under official support of International Magnesium Association (IMA), China Magnesium Association (CMA), Chongqing Science & Technology Commission of the Chongqing Government (China), Chongqing University (China), GKSS-Research Center (Germany), Russian National Aluminium-Magnesium Institute, Palbam-Alonim AMTS (Israel), All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (Russia), TMS Magnesium Committee (USA). The Conference was sponsored by: Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works (Russia), VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation (Russia).
The issues concerning the status of the magnesium market development, technologies of magnesium and magnesium alloys production and application, their treatment and recycling, as well as the status and prospects for the magnesium application development in car industry and other industries were discussed. The Forum gathered about 100 representatives from 60 companies of 14 countries of Europe, Nothern America, Asia, Australia, Russia and CIS countries.
The leading companies demonstrated their achievements in magnesium and magnesium alloys application, new developments of state-of-the-art equipment and technologies. Among them were: International Magnesium Association, JSC "Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works", Kurtz GmbH, "VSMPO-AVISMA" Corporation, Linn High Therm GmbH.
On behalf of the Organization Committee the diplomas and gifts in recognition of great contribution to the development of magnesium industry were awarded to: JSC "Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works" (Russia), "VSMPO-AVISMA" Corporation (Russia), Greg Patzer (International Magnesium Association, USA), Wu Xiuming (China Magnesium Association, China), Karl-Ulrich Kainer (GKSS Research Centre Geesthacht, Germany), Ilya Ostrovsky (Lightest Ltd., Palbam-Alonim AMTS, Chemetall GmbH, Belgium, Israel, Germany), Ekaterina Volkova (All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials, Russia), Robert E.(Bob) Brown (Magnesium Assistance Group/Magnesium Monthly Review, USA).
35 papers of the Russian and foreign experts simultaneously translated into English and Russian were presented at the Conference.

After a hard and fruitful work at the conference, the participants were welcomed on a banquet river-boat. They had a chance to see the beauty of the "Nothern Venice" by gliding gently under picturesque bridges and pass through the subdued elegance of the City's back streets.
As the optional cultural program for the Conference participants and accompanying persons the Organization committee offered a bus-trip to Strelna, Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo and to get acquainted with the collections of the Hermitage - one of the largest, oldest, most important and famous art galleries and museums of human history and culture in the world.
