The leading event in Russian Secondary Aluminium - the 4th International Conference & Exhibition "Aluminium Recycling" was held in Saint-Petersburg - the "cultural capital" and one of the most impressive cities of Russia, in April 1 - 5, 2008.
The Conference was organized by Alusil-MVT under the support of Organization of European Aluminium Refiners and Remelters OEA, Aluminium Extruders Association AEA and the Council of Secondary Non-Ferrous Metallurgy Industrial Enterprises and sponsored by the Austrian company Hertwich Engineering GmbH and the German company Alcutec Engineering GmbH.
The Conference gathered 145 specialists from 95 companies of 21 countries of Europe, America, Asia and Australia. The most numerous delegations were from Russia (75 participants from 48 companies) and Germany (25 participants from 15 companies). Among the delegates there were also students and teachers of Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys (MISiS), Siberia Federal University, Pavlodar State University n.a. S.Toraigyrov (Kazakhstan).

In the focus – energy saving due to more extensive application of recycled aluminium instead of primary metal; aluminium yield increasing at scrap sorting and melting; minimization of power consumption at recycling process.
36 papers of 10 Russian and 26 foreign experts were presented at the Conference plenary meeting, 6 session meetings and 2 poster sessions.

On behalf of the Organization Committee the diplomas in recognition of outstanding achievements and personal contribution to the development of the secondary aluminium industry were awarded to Dmitry Puzanov (The Council of Secondary Non-Ferrous Metallurgy Industrial Enterprises), Christoph Schmitz (Alcutec Engineering GmbH), Gunter Kirchner (OEA), Vladimir Belov (MISiS), Dmitry Ustimov (Vsevologsk plant of aluminium alloys) and the company Alteams Vyborg - one of the leading Russian manufactures of die-castings from secondary aluminium alloys.
As usual, the Conference was supplemented by the exhibition where the leading foreign and Russian companies such as ABB AB (Sweden), Alcron GmbH (Germany), Alcutec Engineering GmbH (Germany), Atherm (France), Bloom Engineering (USA), Dross Engineering (France), Erga (Russia), GHI Hornos Industriales S.L. On the 3rd of April the delegates visited the die-casting facilities of Alteams Vyborg - a leading producer of pressure die casting from secondary aluminium. |
Traditionally, the Conference participants were offered an extensive cultural program which included a sightseeing tour of Saint-Petersburg, visits to the Hermitage, the Russian museum, Tzarskoje Selo with the Catherine Palace and many other places of interest. Sea voyages admirers had a unique opportunity to go on a three day cruise Helsinki-Stockholm-Helsinki on board of a comfortable “SILJA LINE ” sea liner.
