Dear Ladies and Gentlemen
It is a great honour to wish Alusil on behalf of the Organisation of European Aluminium Refiners and Remelters (OEA) a successful exhibition and conference.
Both the conference and the exhibition underline the particular significance that recycled metal in the meantime has gained as an important raw material source in Europe and other parts of the world.
The programme of the conference reflects the multiplicity of tasks and challenges the recycling of metals is facing today. Behind this is the ambition to extend the application field of recycled metal as far as possible. Of course there is still a lot to do. Today, recycling is an important, perhaps even one of the most important indicators for the sustainability of aluminium. For example the high energy use for the aluminium metal production via electrolysis can only be justified by means of recycling. Producing recycled aluminium also means less CO2 emission and by that an important contribution to slow down the global warming effect. The share of recycled metals in single products would be much higher, if there were more secondary raw materials available. Despite of high recycling rates, the quantity is limited. At present we experience that the interest in metal scrap is increasing all over the world. Mainly in China, and to an increasing degree also in India , the demand for scrap seems to be immense. For this reason, the pressure on the European scrap markets has considerably increased during the last years. The challenge for the recycling industry is to strengthen the competitiveness by reducing cost and investing into innovative scrap processing and melting technology. OEA is convinced that the aluminium recycling industry in Europe with its profound knowledge on technology and markets has very good perspectives for the future.
We as OEA are happy to support the Aluminium Recycling Conference and the Exhibition. This also underlines the excellent relations we have with the Russian Aluminium Recycling Industry and Alusil as organizer. On behalf of the OEA, may I wish you a very successful course of your exhibition and conference.
